Intermittent Fasting

Four weeks ago I started intermittent fasting. I decided to try this since I was experiencing various stomach issues a year ago, which worsened about 4 months ago. Acid reflux became a real issue for me. It became difficult to eat. I would eat three or four bites of food and my stomach felt completely filled. My body was having a difficult time ridding itself of gas in my stomach. I struggled to burp, and when I finally did, my stomach would regurgitate food back up into my mouth and throat.

Needless to say, it was pretty gross.

Battling Loom

I started recording and posting videos on my website. The videos are recorded in Loom (which I happen to like a lot). However, not everything is rainbows and unicorns in Loom land. Whenever I record a video, the video is often truncated. Loom tries processing the video but it sort of gives up after awhile. A five minute video can get truncated down to 30 seconds. I’m having to do multiple recordings just to publish 1 video. It’s a bit annoying.

Added a contact page.

I encounter folks all the time who would like to connect. In face-to-face encounters I can hand someone my card. My card has all of the ways to contact me, including the URL to my web page. However, I often meet folks online. I realized that in a virtual setting I don’t have a way for folks to contact me. My site didn’t have a way for someone to actually reach me. Well it does now.

I’ve added a contact page anyone can access via the top navigation. People can use the page to send me an email or schedule time to meet. I connected my site to Calendly. Folks can now schedule time to meet with me either in 15, 30, or 60 minute intervals.

Cheers!

Darn you microphone!

I just realized that Loom was defaulting my microphone to the built-in mic on my camera. The sound of some of my videos is awful. Well it’s not great. Oh well. Adapt and overcome I guess. I’ll have to double-check the microphone before I record.

Live and learn, I guess.

More site updates

I changed things around (again). I changed the features page to include more features. The doctoral video page was renamed to fit with its contents. This way the navigation and features section make more sense, while allowing me to expand and add to the site over time.

I still have a lot of stuff to add to the features section of the site.

Lots of good stuff happening.

Cheers!

Added more videos

I added more videos to my features section on the doctoral dissertation. There is a lot of content to cover about a doctoral dissertation. I hope that students will find my tidbits of advice helpful as they work to complete their doctoral journeys.

New Features section

I’ve been participating in various webinars about the doctoral journey. I love participating in these things. It’s fun to talk about my experience throughout my doctoral journey, and I love generating hope in doctoral students as they pursue one of the most difficult things in the world of academia. While participating in these webinars I had the idea of sharing my experiences and posting them on my website for future doctoral students. I’ve begun doing just that.

We need to critically think about COVID-19, but we're not

I am no expert on viruses, nor do I claim to be. I’ll leave the medical care to the experts. I am simply an advocate for critical thinking, and Americans need more critical thinking in the age of COVID-19 (CV19).

There is so much data available, and yet the data continues to change daily. Changing data means you must allow your perspectives to adapt as we get more and more data. What we once thought to be true will likely end up being false and vice versa.

Coronavirus-19 in Phoenix

Phoenix is not living under mandated quarantine. However, the city is asking people to stay at home. The local cities issued decrees earlier this week that most businesses should close and gatherings of 10 or more people are discouraged.

I’ve worked from home this past week. For the most part it was business as usual for me. I’ll again work from home next week. I expect work stuff to move along as normal.

This morning I ventured out of the house to go to the grocery store. We didn’t need anything, per se. There were a few things I wanted to get. So I got in my car and drove the half mile to the store.
