Co-op video games

A couple of weeks ago I spoke at a conference about the power of virtual teams. I used several examples I’ve learned from video gamers to make various points about working in virtual teams. To my surprise, the majority of my audience was interested in the relationship between video gamers and virtual teams.

After my talk an individual approached me in the hall. He asked if there were other games that would be useful for building virtual team interconnectedness. That question caught me off guard as I never considered that idea beyond my own research. Sadly, I didn’t have an answer for him. His question did get me thinking about possible games.

Are there video games that are simple and cooperative that teams of people could play to help them build the necessary skills to be successful in a virtual team setting?

Aside from World of Warcraft, I was stuck.

I’ve learned a lot about virtual teams by studying World of Warcraft and its players. However, World of Warcraft is a complicated game that requires exorbitant amounts of time to master, as well as get to a point where you can actually start playing together as a team.

I’m not sure where this question will take me, but I’m excited to find out.
