The concept of justice

People throw around the word justice. Given their use of the word, it is clear they have never reflected on its meaning.

To seek justice means to seek fairness, legitimacy, and soundness. It often implies seeking fairness for someone while removing something from someone else. This is often twisted by taking something from someone who committed no offense and giving that something to another who was never slighted. That is not justice — it is legalized theft.

No matter who you scrutinize, no matter the degree of claim, nor the severity of the accusation, you must give every man his just due — no exception. Set aside your emotions, recognize your bias, and turn off your assumptions, lest you commit an injustice in your pursuit of justice.

Your judgement must be based on evidence and facts as they pertain to the presented argument. You must never assume. You must never infer. Does the evidence support the argument and that argument alone?

There is a fine line between justice and revenge. The former is governed by reason. The latter is ruled by emotion.
